Fachada Castillo

This beautiful castle-palace from the beginning of the 16th century is a great quadrilateral with cubes in its corners, a door with a rounded archway with the Toledo´s coat of arms, and some palace buildings around a central cloister.

Villafranca was ruled by kings and lords alternatively. Among these lords, The Osorio (Condes of Lemos) and The Pimentel (Counts of Benavente and first Marquises of Villafranca) were the creators of the current castle.

The castle was decommissioned by French and English. Later it was a prison and a noble place of residence.

Today, it is inhabited by the landlords of Marquises of Villafranca. The mansion is well kept with furniture and beautiful gardens.

In the dungeons, there is farming machinery and a winery. A deep well which used to provide water is still preserved.
